“God is more honoured by a single Mass
than He could be by all the actions
of angels and humanity together, however fervent and heroic they might be.”
St Claude de la Colombiere

Dear Mothers and Fathers.
Mid-way through Lent seems like a good time to write to you all. I have had the profound blessings of time at Taizé this weekend and an afternoon visit to the nearby town of Paray-le-Monial ‘city of the Sacred Heart’. I lit candles for the Sodality in the basilica, the apparition shrine and the shrine of St Claude. St Claude was Spiritual Director to St Margaret Mary the visionary of the Sacred Heart.

There is a short article from the Catholic Herald that shows the intimate relationship between the Sacred Heart and the ordained priesthood. Link

Spiritual Direction is much on my mind of late, I hope that if you are ‘between’ directors you will aim to rectify that urgently. Our priestly ministry is like a target on our backs for the Evil One and his angels of darkness. We need every spiritual tool possible to deflect his attacks. If you are not already acting as a SD yourself do consider making it known that you are willing to do so. There is no magic, no expertise, just sister and brother sinners on the Way.

During my few days in Burgundy I have been staying with Mtr Ruth Cook and her husband Joe at their bed and breakfast in Toury about three miles from Taizé. I blessed a little Oratory in their cellar (Of the Holy Trinity). I recommend this as a place to stay and with an altar to offer Mass at. It is very comfortable and well kitted out in a tiny village with walks all around, including to some simply gorgeous Romanesque churches.

Mother Ruth is considering membership of the Sodality and is developing an important ministry of prayer for priests. She would be glad to hear from Sodalists through Facebook and to receive requests for prayer.

I pray that Lent is not too busy for each of you and that Holy Week allows some space for growth for yourself.
I am at that stage of life in dealing with fragile and infirm parents which takes up a lot of time and headspace, I would appreciate your prayers for that, and for a book that I am working on, it will consist of much of the material on prayer that has appeared on my blog.

In the Two Hearts,

Fr Richard
